The 'theotokos' and the Chalcedonian dogmata are treated in the form of a dialogue with the' heretic'. The dialogue is represented as having actually happened, p. : 'I asked the heretic on one occasion conXXXll INTRODUCTION cerning his saying "God-bearer"'; p. : 'And when he heard these things, he rose up ... ' After this the author goes on (pp. 54-61) with instructions on how to behave in a discussion with the followers of Severus andJacob (Baradai) about one nature and one hypostasis. This section has accordingly the subheading 'And now, against the Severians'.
For three chapters there is a further parallel in Vatic. syr. 179 (= V); they follow in this ms. after the so-called Syriac counter-anathemata (which form the second half of XI in C).
